Tim Bret-Day is pretty much the shit when it comes to creating images of fantasy, desire and the somewhat ludicrous scenes that high fashion editorial commands. He's essentially the opposite of a point and shoot kind of photographer, constructing elaborate scenes of nauseating gloss, depth and glamour finished within an inch of its life. So its really no surprise that brands like Agent Provocateur, Harvey Nichols, Adidas, Mercedes and Smirnoff have all come knocking on his door to make them look good. His images have graced the pages of magazine heavyweights such as Harpers and Queen, The Face, Marie Claire, Flaunt... I can actually go on forever.

Frank Kozik was born in Madrid, Spain in 1962. At the age of 14 he moved to the United States and settled in Austin, Texas. Credited with single handedly reviving the “lost” art of the concert poster, his creative career rose largely out of his enthusiasm for Austin’s growing underground punk rock scene in the mid-eighties. Starting with black and white flyers for friends’ bands posted on telephone poles, his reputation grew as an artist whose work was graphically compelling as well as culturally gripping.

Kozik is based in San Francisco, California, where he produces artwork, toys and graphic design. He formerly managed his own record label, Man’s Ruin Records (1995-2001). Under which, he released over 220 singles and full length albums including the first Queens of the Stone Age single.

He has produced artwork for a diverse range of musicians such as Pearl Jam, the Butthole Surfers, Green Day, Neil Young, Sonic Youth, the Melvins and many more. In 1996, he directed Soundgarden’s “Pretty Noose” music video.

Kozik’s commercial clients include Nike, Gatorade, Absolute Vodka, Oakley, Harley Davidson, and Spike TV.

In 2001 Kozik left the music business and devoted himself full time to fine art and the newly emerging Vinyl Art Toy movement. Since 2001 he has designed over 300 separate toys and art multiples.

Teaming up with such entities as Kid Robot, Toy2R and others, he has created many collectible characters such as the Smorkin’ Labbit series, the Hate Dunny and Dr. Bomb. He is also known for producing hand painted, one of a kind custom toys and Kaiju figures.

In 2007, he started his own brand, Ultraviolence™, under which he produces limited edition art toys and bronze sculptures.

Ron English’s interactive “Status Factory” exhibition makes its way to Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California. Attendees can expect English’s signature collection of surreal artwork that spans across a variety of mediums. In addition to the beige, yellow and pink versions, the Nike Air Magma ND will release in two new exclusive, bold colorways of blue and orange. As with the other editions each boot is fastened with starkly contrasting laces and black detailing. The blue and orange versions will release exclusively at Nike Harajuku alongside the rest of the set, in restricted numbers on November 13 and 14.

Since I was a kid I have always had recurring dreams about futuristic architecture, often they would be giant structures made from glass with vines and roots. These dreams were a combination of my love for Aldous Huxley books and films like Laputa (castle in the sky) and Labyrinth. I came across the Portugese architect Álvaro Leite Siza Vieira 's dream home Casa fez.

We have all seen more than enough of the stacked-boxes genre of architecture. Boring, cold, uninviting, uninhabitable and so last decade.

Yet, once in a while, a set of images crosses our desks of a project that could potentially fall into the has-been category but doesn’t, and instead makes us look again and ponder the beauty of great architecture.

This is the case with Casa Fez, a new house in Porto, Portugal, designed by Álvaro Leite Siza Vieira.

From some angles, we see glimpses of Tomorrowland, but we are willing to overlook that because from so many other viewpoints, the statuesque poise of the structure and the stark clarity of lines brings back memories of Alvar Aalto. One can almost imagine this house in the birch forests of Finland.

Architect Álvaro Leite Siza Vieira, who was born in 1962 in Porto, graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Escola do Porto in 1994. He has an impressive pedigree that includes touches of Finland, and that which perhaps explains the Aalto-like feel of this house.

He is the son of one of the best-known Portuguese architects, Álvaro Siza Vieira www.alvarosizavieira.com, winner of the 1992 Pritzker Prize and the 1988 Alvar Aalto Medal, among many other accolades.

Father and son collaborated in the creation of their competition entry for the Museum of Contemporary Art, KIASMA , in Helsinki in 1992 (won by American architect Steven Holl.)

Natural light, wooden floors, unadorned windows all add up to a simplicity that resembles a gallery, museum or concert hall. Casa Fez does not pretend to be a cozy home, but is instead a statement residence that fits the owners’ lifestyle. - Tuija Seipell

Robert Bradford creates his life-size and larger-than-life sculptures of humans and animals from discarded plastic items, mainly toys but also other colorful plastic bits and pieces, such as combs and buttons, brushes and parts of clothes pegs.

Contrary to some reports, he’s not a self-taught artist who tinkered in his shed one day and suddenly decided to create something out of his kids’ discarded toys. He is a London-born and U.K. and U.S.-trained visual artist who, like many artists, also had another career on the side. His was that of a psychotherapist.

In 2002, he started to consider the possibilities that his children’s forgotten toys could have as part of something bigger. Bradford says he likes the idea that the plastic pieces have a history, some unknown past, and that they also pass on a “cultural” history as each of the pieces represents a point in time. Recycling is not his primary concern, but each sculpture certainly keeps quite a few pieces from becoming landfill. Taking place at Contact from Thursday 30th September to Saturday 2nd October the Black Sound Series is a celebration of Black Music culture and it's influence on the UK at the opening of Black History Month 2010. Attractions include the best in Spoken Word Poetry, Live Music, Contemporary dance, DJ’s and a photographic exhibition.

Contact in association with Culturehub NYC and ADAD present a special curated Mixed Movement. Dancers from Manchester and New York jamming in real-time across a digital space to celebrate the diversity of Black Dance!
The event is hosted by DawN Crandell - creator of Mixed Movement, and also features two incredible showcase artists: Lati Saka and Manchester’s premier dance troupe ‘ Shockout’.

These two words should never even pop into your mind. But today I discovered graffiti artists Insa new heels made out of ahem mmmm well pooh!

He was inspired by Manchester born artist Chris Ofili who has been using very unique mixed media for his art. Chris

won a Turner Prize with 'The virgin Mary' made up made up of black porn magazine collage, oil paint, glitter, polyester resin and elephant dung on linen.

The first has to be 13 year old blogger of the year Tavi Gevinson. This lil fashionista has created a storm in the fashion industry and is now seen on the front row at the biggest catwalk shows. Tavi started her blog at age 11 and now has over 50,000 readers.

Mary Katrantzou is among the second wave of breakout stars of the digital print revolution that has been sweeping London's designers since Basso & Brooke began experimenting a few years ago. The shift from mechanical screen printing to computer manipulations of color and pattern has meant designers like Katrantzou can achieve impossibly complex feats of imagination, and she's moving as fast as pixels and ink jets can be pushed to decorate a beautiful silk dress. For Spring, the wavy, multicolored trompe l'oeil patterns were an intensification of the research into perfume bottles Katrantzou used last Fall. This time, she'd gotten sucked into the visual possibilities of the spiraling, fluid forms of artisanal blown glass. Chef Series: Food for thought

Manchester based photographer Attila Zsargo is my biggest inspiration for 2010. This particular Chef Series is a combination of structured body shapes complementing the foods colour and shape. The series features the inspiring alternative model 'Faytal', (one to look out for ) make up artist Roseecheeks and japanese jewelry designer Muku.

I love so many elements of this series, Attila's strong and unique composition, the way Faytal is able to hold a pose that is that elegant sexy and serene despite squeezing a dead rabbit or fish.

I will be posting an video tour of Faytal's underwater shoot in the Philippines this April.

It seems that quite a few things will benefit from a Scandinavian touch. Munchausen, a duo formed by Parisian designers Simon Pillard and Philippe Rosetti, took a bold approach with their own kitchen by venturing to IKEA for the basic kitchen island and then spending the next week covering it with more than 20,000 pieces by another Scandinavian brand, Lego
The result is a one-of-a-kind creation that serves as an artistic centerpiece for the space, in addition to functioning as a kitchen counter. Pillard, who works with fashion house JC de Castelbajac, and Rosetti who works with Hugo Boss France Identity, formed Munchhausen in 2004.
The two have recently contributed a collection of T-shirts, cushions, wallpaper and accessories for the new French labelCommune de Paris, 1871. Munchhausen was one of three initial contributors for Commune de Paris, 187. The other two were Julien Langendorff and David Herman Dune. - Tuija Seipell.

The use of print within fashion is not a new phenomenon, however, with technological innovation a surge of photosynthesis prints is giving an almost 3D effect to the finished garments. The fusion of colour, print and reality makes the wearer feel like a moving installation! One brand whose signature style integrates narrative prints and a kaleidoscope of colours is Susanne Ostwald and Ingvar Helgason of Ostwald Helgason. The German and Icelandic designers met when both were working for a London design studio. They won two design grants from the German government and showed their first joint collection at Paris Fashion Week. Ostwald is the colour and print designer and Helgason is the maestro of the silhouettes. The Ostwald Helgason label launched in 2006 and stocks in Denmark, France, Hong Kong, Iceland, Japan, Netherlands, UK and US in shops such as Opening Ceremony, Kokon To Zai and Bauhaus, and boasts fans such as Rihanna and Daphne Guinness.– Kate Vandermeer

Iconic retro brands possess strong currency right now. The latest hails not from the annals of fashion or apparel but from the world of toys - we're talking about LEGO, the multi-coloured building bricks that we all grew up with. While LEGO is still one of the top children's toy brands, it is spontaneously morphing into a credible street brand, adopted by Gen Y hipsters who still nurture happy memories of playing with the blocks as kids. It's part of a bigger trend, which has seen other iconic mostly 80s brands such as Reebok enjoy unexpected revivals.

LEGO has been appearing in all sorts of unlikely applications from watches to cameras, bags and belts, to usb sticks, mobile phones and even cupcakes. Our favourites include a recent ad for hot fashion house Lanvin, which used colour-spray guns made from LEGO in a recent campaign and adorable LEGO fashion show video by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac which cast LEGO figures as fabulous high fashion catwalk models. We can only imagine what will be next. Lego for Louis Vuitton, perhaps? Marc Jacobs bags and Lego - a match made in heaven.
